About

Joëring

A perfect blend of skiing and dog sledding, this discipline attracts more and more enthusiasts every year.

Joëring is a combined activity, pulled by one or more horses on snow, grass, sand or tracks. Although developed for competition, it is also possible to go for a ride or hike.

There are three types of tests for joëring competitions.

1. Giant slalom or special slalom: the horse and skier must pass through 8 to 12 gates (giant) or 12 to 15 gates (special). The faster the pace, the more points the competitor earns.

2. Speed test: performed in a straight line or on a circle

3. Manoeuvrability: the horse and its driver must overcome various obstacles (between 5 and 8).

Le joëring, originaire des pays nordiques, peut aujourd’hui être pratiqué par tous et en tout temps. Les compétitions sont ouvertes aux niveaux Poneys et Club.

How to practice it ?
The activity can be practised from the age of 6 - with suitable horses.

The ponies and horses recommended for this activity are Shetland ponies for children and double ponies or small horses for adults. However, all types of horses and ponies can be used for joëring, whether they are saddle or draught horses.

The most important thing is that they respond well to the voice and that they have been broken in in a similar way to a carriage horse.

Please note that skis must not be longer than 1.70m to avoid disturbing the animal.
